Hailing from Courtenay-Comox on Vancouver Island, I grew up (some say I still have yet to grow up at all) in a family with 2 older brothers that taught me the finer nuances of being a trouble maker.
My obsessions include but not limited to: Movies!, NFL football (GO STEELERS!), animals of all kinds (at different times in my life I have had a pet crow, frog, and if I could somehow manage it I would LOVE a pet shark!). A good day is made even better by meeting people we share this great city, province and country with. Oh! I almost forgot ... annoying the hell out of Jess 5 days a week!Nickname: Tymo has been around FOREVER. Quacker (from a chance encounter with a duck while on a bike...long story but we are still friends) and Doc. Doc came about when I listed my name in the Calgary phone book while living there. My initials are M.D. Tymo and that was how it was listed. I received approximately 1000 calls asking if the Doctor was seeing new patients and taa daa the nickname was born.
Best Day in Radio: SO many to choose from but here are some highlights. This happened in one day: rode a mechanical bull for charity in the morning, then was at a dunk tank for charity at noon, then off to play music and entertain people on the radio from 2-6...not a bad day! Another is when I managed to get my fiancé Robyn, on her birthday, backstage to meet Kim Mitchell. I told Kim it was her BIG day and to give her a birthday smooch. He did one better...how many people can say there is a picture of themselves laughing as Kim Mitchell French Kisses their girlfriend??! Ask to see it and I will post it on the CJOC Facebook page.
Why did you get into radio? It was a combination of laziness and a true love and passion for music! Lazy because the heaviest thing I lift all day is my pen, and where else can a guy hear the best music on the Planet each and everyday? Seeing as I cannot play an instrument to save my life...the expression is 'those that can't play...do radio'. That and I have been called a goof off my whole life and where else can you get paid to do that right?
Best Interview: This is a toss up. It was either Sass Jordan after a show in Edmonton ... and after she gave me hell for eating the bands backstage food, she taught me THE best cure for what ails you in life. Drink Coconut water each day...try it, trust me this nectar will add years to your life...but it HAS to be coconut WATER, not the milk. Another would be talking with Chris Daughtry and asking him what he does in his free time while he isn't in the studio recording or on the road. His answer was chopping wood at his ranch. He told me that chopping a couple cords of wood each day melts the stress of life away and keeps him in great shape. A stressed out rock star ... who knew?
Favorite Concert and Why? Again a couple of choices here. Tom Cochrane in Camrose a few years back. I was going to intro Tom and his band on the stage that night and was chatting with him before the show about how he wanted me to intro him. During the conversation he was warming up his voice and I sung a few bars of Life is a Highway with him...super cool/surreal moment in my life! Or any one of the four times I have seen Rod Stewart...no explanation needed...it is Rod Stewart...c'mon now.
Something only my Mom knows: That I hate watching horror movies! The hate stemming from watching JAWS on TV and not sleeping for two weeks after that from being scared (hey, we lived by the ocean and you trying telling a 6 year old that JAWS will NOT grow legs and crawl out of the ocean at night and sneak into his room to eat him!) ever since, I just don't watch those movies that will feed my over active imagination.
