Vacant Atrium Building Could Be Developed

A partially-completed building in downtown Lethbridge that was destined for demolition might be developed in the near future.

A partially-completed building in downtown Lethbridge that was destined for demolition might be developed in the near future. The "atrium building" on 7th Street South has remained a concrete shell for nearly 30 years. Earlier this year City Council directed the property owner, a B.C. Corporation, to tear down the structure if there were no plans for development. But on Monday, City Solicitor Doug Hudson told Council the owner has advised his office that plans are underway to develop the property. He says a development application could come to City Administration in mid-October, with an application for approval by Council at sometime in November.  Hudson says the atrium site has been designated a "direct control" district for land use purposes and a development application requires City Council approval.
