Tecconnect Receives Provincial Funding to Better Support Local Entrepreneurs

Economic Development Lethbridge CEO, Trevor Lewington, says the money will help small businesses move their ideas forward.

Lethbridge's Tecconnect receiving $400,000 in provincial funding Wednesday morning (Oct. 4). The Alberta Entrepreneurship Incubator Program is a $10-million pilot project, delivered through Alberta Innovates over two years. Economic Development Lethbridge CEO, Trevor Lewington, says the money will help Tecconnect offer commercialization services, networking, mentorship opportunities and startup funding to small businesses as they move their ideas forward. Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Deron Bilous, adds that small businesses with incubator support have an average 25-per cent growth rate. Lethbridge West MLA, Shannon Phillips -- who made the funding announcement -- also says Lethbridge has a proven track record of being able to take this approach to growing business. -Sam Borsato
