Lethbridge Police Holiday Season Checkstop Campaign Getting Underway

Traditional, on-road Check Stops will be set up at various locations around the City of Lethbridge over the next few weeks while officers will also be conducting targeted, mobile enforcement.

It's December now and that means police check-stop season. The Lethbridge Police check stop campaign gets underway this week and will run right through the entire month and into the New Year as well. The primary goal of check stops is to locate and apprehend impaired drivers, but police will also be checking for valid documentation including driver’s licenses, vehicle registration and insurance as well as equipment, liquor and other violations. LPS Spokesperson Kristen Harding says police are not asking people to abstain from drinking, all they're asking is if you do drink, plan ahead and make sure you have a safe ride home.  Traditional, on-road Check Stops will be set up at various locations around the city, while officers will also be conducting targeted, mobile enforcement. Harding says after all these years it should go without saying that if you plan to drink, don’t drive and yet police still continue to apprehend impaired drivers. She notes "there is absolutely no excuse to get behind the wheel when your ability to drive is impaired by alcohol or drugs and there will be zero tolerance for anyone who chooses to do so.” - Pat Siedlecki & Tina Giesbrecht
