Lethbridge Police Commission Hears About Long Guns

Lethbridge Regional Police Chief Tom McKenzie says the long gun registry should be only one part of an overall national firearms strategy.

Lethbridge Regional Police Chief Tom McKenzie says the long gun registry should be only one part of an overall national firearms strategy. He spoke about the issue Wednesday at the local Police Commission meeting and indicated Chiefs in Alberta and across the country generally support the long gun registry. But McKenzie beleives the Chiefs as an organization must continue to lobby for change and improvements.  McKenzie says looking at the current penalties for lawful gun owners, better monitoring of guns coming into Canada, and greater punishment surrounding certain gun offences are some of the changes the Canadian Chiefs of Police would like to see.
