Lethbridge Police Christmas Check Stop Campaign Results in 21 Impaired Driving Charges

The Lethbridge Police Christmas Check Stop Campaign has wrapped for another year.

The Lethbridge Police Christmas Check Stop Campaign has wrapped for another year. In total, 21 people were charged with impaired driving - up from 13 during last year's campaign. However, the LPS says check stops started one weekend earlier this season which partly accounts for the increase in charges. There were also joint forces initiatives with members of the Blood Tribe Police Service and RCMP and the additional resources allowed officers to check more vehicles. In addition to the 21 impaired driving charges, there were 9 Immediate Roadside Sanctions handed out, 16 Graduated Driver's License zero-alcohol suspensions and 11 suspended drivers apprehended. The LPS reminds motorists that check stops will continue throughout the year. -Tina Giesbrecht
