For a 5th straight month, the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region has seen a small increase in the local unemployment rate.
This region no longer has the lowest unemployment rate in Alberta. The latest data being released Friday morning (Dec. 1) from Stats Canada. The Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region had an unemployment rate in November at 5.4%, up modestly from 5.3% the month before. This region is now playing second fiddle to Red Deer for the first time in a long time, with that region's jobless rate falling to an even 5.0%, the lowest now in the province. Alberta's overall unemployment rate dipped to 6.8% in November, which is a big drop from October's 7.5% and the national rate fell nearly half a percentage point to 5.9%, the lowest it's been across the country since February 2008. - Pat Siedlecki
