A 44 year man has been sentenced to three and-a-half years in prison for leading police a couple of high speed chases. Richard John Dewar pleaded guilty to several charges Tuesday in Lethbridge Provincial Court including evading police and obstructing an officer. Back in July Dewar was driving a stolen vehicle when he was stopped by police in Lethbridge. The officer reached into the car to turn off the ignition when Dewar resisted and moved the vehicle forward. The officer continued to struggle with him,  threatening to shoot him, before Dewar finally got away. A high speed chase followed but was eventually called off because it was  endangering public safety. The next day Dewar led Taber police on another high speed chase there before he was finally arrested. Dewar has also been banned from driving for the next five years.
