Lethbridge Catholic High School Alumni Honoured with Prestigious Rhodes Scholarship

Iain Sander says that he plans to study orthopaedic biomechanics at Oxford to help improve the health, lives and independence of individuals with disabilities

A Holy Spirit Catholic School alumni announced as a 2018 Rhodes Scholar on Thursday (Nov. 23). Each year the international scholarship to Oxford University is given to 11 outstanding students from across Canada who demonstrate a strong tendency to emerge as leaders of the world's future. Iain Sander attended high school here in Lethbridge, and has since graduated from Queen's University with first class honours in chemical engineering. He is currently in his first year of medical studies at the University of Alberta. Chris Smeaton, Holy Spirit Catholic Schools Superintendent, says Sander is a model for what it means to be an exceptional graduate. Sander says that he plans to study orthopaedic biomechanics at Oxford to help improve the health, lives and independence of individuals with disabilities. -Sam Borsato
