Large Crowd Attends Public Session Against Oil Drilling in West Lethbridge

Circulation of a petition door-to-door is the next step in the mounting opposition to an oil drilling and fracking proposal within the city limits

It was a full house Tuesday night (Jan. 14) at G.S. Lakie Middle School for a public meeting hosted by the No Drilling Lethbridge group. The organizers are trying to prevent the plans to drill for oil within the city limits on the west side. No Drilling spokesperson Sheila Rogers says volunteers will also be going door-to-door asking people to sign a petition. She says there are still quite a few people who are not away GoldenKey Oil plans to drill three wells in West Lethbridge. Rogers says they're asking people to sign a petition, write letters to the local MLA's and write letters of conern to the Alberta Energy Regulator. The goal will be to gather over 13,000 signatures by the end of the month. - Bryan Jeannotte
