The Hurricanes have a new Assistant Coach, hiring Jeff Hansen from the Calgary Hitmen.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce the hiring of Jeff Hansen as the clubs new Assistant Coach. Hansen, 35, has spent the last four seasons as a Video Coach in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen. In his time with the Hitmen, he helped the club to a 165-97-14-12 record earning a playoff berth in all four campaigns along with one Central Division title. He also helped the Hitmen to the Eastern Conference Championship Series in 2015. Hansen spent the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons working alongside current Hurricanes Head Coach Brent Kisio. “I’m very excited to be able to come on board and I’m looking forward to a good year and growing on the success that the Hurricanes have had the last two years and hopefully taking it to the next level,” said Hansen. “Brent was a big part of this. I missed having Brent in Calgary and I think it’s very important to have good chemistry in the room but it’s also really important for the coaches to have it in the coach’s room as well.” Prior to his four seasons with the Hitmen, Hansen was an Assistant Coach with the Calgary Mustangs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the 2012-2013 season. The Calgary, Alberta product also served as the Head Coach of the A/C Avalanche of the Alberta Major Midget Hockey League from 2009 until 2012. “I think I’m a coach that is going to lead by example as far as hard work and showing up every day ready to work hard and get better. I want to make myself better as a coach and make the players better as players,” added Hansen. Hansen’s playing career spanned nine seasons, including seven games in the East Coast Hockey League with the Cincinnati Cyclones in 2003-2004. He also appeared in the Southern Professional Hockey League with the Knoxville Ice Bears, the Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey with the Verdun Dragons and the Central Hockey League with the Rocky Mountain Rage and Amarillo Gorillas. He rounded out his playing career with the Bentley Generals in the Chinook Hockey League winning an Allan Cup in 2009. “We’re all really excited to have Jeff on board. He’ll bring a lot of energy and he’s got a real keen eye for the game and obviously coming from Calgary, a great organization, he’s been there a long time and he’ll really add to our staff and help us win some hockey games,” said Kisio. “We worked together in Calgary and we did a lot of good things there and won some games and we want to continue to do that here.” - Lethbridge Hurricanes Release
