The Lethbridge College Kodiaks Women's Basketball team capping off a perfect season on Saturday by claiming their fourth national title at the CCAA Championship in Edmonton.
21 games in the regular season and not a single loss. Another three games at the ACAC Championships and not a single loss. A final three games at the CCAA National Championships in Edmonton, and still, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Women’s Basketball team are the undefeated national champions. With another stellar performance from tournament MVP Sunder West, the Kodiaks rolled over the Dawson Blues 81-57 on their way to their fourth championship in the CCAA. The team only trailed once in the entire game after the Blues scored the first basket of the game, but from there, it was all Kodiaks. The game started as a defensive struggle between both teams, with Kodiaks scoring only 16 points in both the first and second quarters, but the third is where the Kodiaks built their lead up. The offensive flood gates opened and the Kodiaks put up 30 points in the third. In the fourth, the defense was back on display before the Kodiaks took the gold. Along with West being named tournament MVP after a 22 point performance in the gold medal game, Emma Lowry and Logan Moncks were both named first team all stars for the tournament. Amy Arbon earned player of the game honours with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. This caps off a dominant season for the Kodiaks, where almost every win was by at least 10 points. Their hardest test was against the Nomades do Montmorency in the second game, where they edged them out by just three points. - Nick Nielsen
