Weather Network Forecasting Southern Prairies to See Harshest Winter Weather in Canada this Year

It looks like we could be in for a so-called "classic Canadian winter" here in southern Alberta.

It looks like we can expect a cold and snowy winter across southern Alberta. The Weather Network released its winter forecast Monday and the prairies are expected to "experience the harshest winter weather in the country with below normal temperatures and above normal snowfall expected for much of the region, especially across the south." Meteorologist, Doug Gillham, says it's not expected to be as severely cold as last winter, but the temperatures will likely dip to the cold side of normal, especially in the second half of the season.  He says southern Alberta can expect a number of snowfall events totalling a higher than average precipitation which is good news for areas that experienced drought conditions during the summer. Gillham adds it likely won't be an "early spring" for southern Alberta this year. -Pat Siedlecki/Tina Giesbrecht
