Traffic flows on that stretch of roadway have been increasing and the roughly year-and-a-half project will help alleviate those issues.
Another major west side road construction project gets underway next week.
The twinning of University Drive will take about a year-and-a-half to complete, giving that heavily-used roadway two lanes in each direction from north of the U OF L Community Stadium to just south of the Sunridge roundabout.
Project Manager, Robert Kovacs says there won't be any traffic impact in the early stages. "The initial stage of construction of the new northbound lanes will not require road closures as it will take place off University Drive in the large grassed boulevard east of the road. Motorists may however experience temporary traffic interruptions and reduced speed limits are possible."
Future stages will involve partial and/or complete intersection closures. Additional information will be issued in advance of these stages. The entire project is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2020.
