More details have been released by RCMP about a serious workplace accident at Teck's Greenhills mine, across the provincial border in British Columbia's Elk Valley.

On Monday afternoon (Jan. 28), a Teck employee was changing a tire on a 66,000 pound Maxam truck when the tire exploded.

The man suffered a broken arm and head injuries. He was taken by helicopter to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary for treatment.

The coal mining company says that no one else was hurt and there's no ongoing safety risks at the operation located northeast of Elkford.

RCMP are now investigating the incident alongside BC's Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources.
