Students Participate in Provincewide Walkout in Support of Gay-Straight Alliances

Dozens of schools and thousands of students across Alberta took part in the 20 minute long walkout Friday morning.

Lethbridge students joined thousands of others across the province and walked out of their classes Friday morning to protest the provincial government's position on gay-straight alliances.

Legislation enacted by Alberta's former NDP government banned school administrations from telling parents if their child or children became involved in GSA's.

New Premier Jason Kenney and his United Conservative Party opposes that legislation and has promised to reverse the ban.

The province wide walkout Friday involved dozens of schools and had teens leave their classrooms for 20 minutes starting at 9:30am.
