Sentencing Delayed for Lethbridge Teacher Guilty of Child Porn Offences

Dwayne Schnell was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday (Mar. 13) in Lethbridge Provincial Court, however that has now been put off to another date.

A Lethbridge teacher who pleaded guilty to child pornography-related charges will have to wait to find out his fate. Dwayne Schnell, 37, was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday (Mar. 13), however that has now been put off to a later date with the defence noting that a forensic assessment had just been completed. Schnell will be back in a Lethbridge courtroom March 29 to set a new sentencing date. Schnell was arrested last year following an investigation by Alberta's Internet Child Exploitation Team. He was teaching at Ecole La Verendrye, a francophone school on the south side. Court was told a few months ago that 150 child pornography images -- some involving students -- were found on electronic devices seized from Schnell as well as on virtual Dropbox accounts. He remains out on bail under several conditions. - Pat Siedlecki & Sam Borsato

CORRECTION: A previous story stated that Schnell would be sentenced on March 29. This corrected version instead states that a new sentencing date will be set on March 29. We apologize for the mistake.
