Road Work in Front of Lethbridge's Civic Ice Centre Aims to Improve Pedestrian Safety

Construction work in front of the Civic Ice Centre downtown is expected to wrap up by the middle of the week.

Construction work in front of the Civic Ice Centre downtown is expected to wrap up by the middle of the week. The city says enhancements to improve pedestrian safety are being installed like flashing pedestrian lights and the extension of the curb called a "bulb-out." A bulb-out extends the sidewalk to reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians and allows for better sight lines. Until that work is complete, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in the area of 6th avenue south and 10th street south. The speed limit has also been dropped to 30 kilometres per hour. -Tina Giesbrecht
