New property addressing requirements come into effect in Lethbridge this week.
Anyone with property that borders an alley will have to put their house number at the back as well as the front.
The Naming and Addressing Bylaw was approved by Lethbridge City Council in the spring of 2017 and comes into effect on Wednesday (Apr. 24). It requires residential, commercial and industrial property owners to have address numbers plainly visible from the back.
Address numbers must be at least four-inches in height and plainly visible from the alley whether that be on a fence, garage, home or businesses.
The bylaw was designed based on best practices established by other municipalities across Alberta and is intended to help emergency service providers, utility providers and external agencies such as Canada Post.
