New Democrat Shannon Phillips Narrowly Wins Lethbridge-West Constituency

Shannon Phillips will be the only NDP opposition MLA in a sea of blue UCP MLA's in southern Alberta.

All the votes are finally counted in Lethbridge-West and it was a very close race from start to finish.

The NDP's Shannon Phillips has been re-elected by just 225 votes over the United Conservative candidate, Karri Flatla. Elections Alberta released the results of the final two outstanding polls just before the Easter long weekend. Phillips ended up with 45.2% of the vote and Flatla close behind with 44.3%.

The final vote count was 11,016 for Shannon Phillips and 10,791 for Karri Flatla.

Phillips becomes the first New Democrat in southern Alberta to ever get re-elected in back-to-back provincial elections.
