Nanton RCMP Arrest Man Caught in the Act Stealing Copper Wire

A Calgary man has been arrested after police caught a suspect trying to steak hundreds of feet of copper wire at a work site near Parkland.

Mounties in Nanton catching a copper wire thief red-handed this week.

RCMP say early Tuesday morning (Jan. 29), officers responded to a break-in off a Township Road near Parkland. Officers arrived and found a suspicious vehicle at a local industrial site.

Police caught a suspect in the act of removing several hundred feet of copper wire from its brackets. 42 year old Brian Edward Tanner of Calgary has been arrested and charged with break and enter, mischief to property and several counts of failing to comply with court-ordered conditions.

Nanton RCMP say had the suspect been successful in removing the wire, repairs to the work site would have cost more than $50,000.

Tanner remains in jail and will appear in court in Fort Macleod February 13th.
