MD of Taber Receives Provincial Money For Flood Mitigation Project

Minister Ceci announces new flood resilience grant funding for Calgary and other Alberta communities.

The Horsefly Spillway Project is one of 15 flood mitigation projects around the province sharing in over $43 million in funding.

The projects include the Horsefly Spillway in the MD of Taber which is a 14 kilometre spillway extending from the St. Mary River Irrigation District main canal to the Oldman River.

MD of Taber Reeve, Merrill Harris, says the Horsefly Spillway Project is significant for southern Alberta municipalities and irrigation districts. "We look forward to working with our regional partners as well as both provincial and federal officials as we undertake this regionally significant project."

The Horsefly Spillway will receive just under $7.4 million in funding.

The flood mitigation projects are part of the new Alberta Community Resilience Program.
