Lethbridge Regional Police are warning of a large amount of counterfeit U.S. $20.00 bills floating around.

Lethbridge Regional Police are warning of a large amount of counterfeit U.S. $20.00 bills floating around. Offiicers are looking into several complaints about the fake money.  Sergeant Jeff Mantyak with the L.R.P.S. Economic Crimes Unit says the phony bills have been found all across the city.  He says most of the money has made it's way into local businesses, but some of the bills have also been discovered at a few banks.  Mantyak says it's believed that several people are responsible for trying to spend the counterfeit American currency and that the unidentified suspects might be from the Lethbridge area.

Some of the characteristics of the recovered bills include:

1. Extremely small bills.

2. Lettering, seals, numbers not clear and crisp.  Overall fine detail is poor.

3. Discolouration

4. Large patches of white where printing wore off or did not take.

5. Same serial number in group of bills
