A local woman has received a substantial fine and had her driver's licence suspended on a charge of careless driving that resulted in the death of a cyclist. 50 year old Robyn Wilgosh pleaded guilty to the charge recently and was sentenced yesterday in Lethbridge Provincial Court. Last May on Highway 3 west of Lethbridge, Wilgosh was the driver a vehicle that struck and killed 49 year old Sherry Handsaeme, who was riding her bicycle along the shoulder of the road. Wilgosh's lawyer stated she "heard something beep in her car and looked down briefly" when she hit the cyclist from behind. He added his client is extremely remorseful and extended an apology to the family and friends of the deceased woman. Wilgosh received the maximum penalty under the law that includes a total fine of $2300 and had her driver's license suspended for three months. - Bryan Jeannotte
