Former longtime CCH basketball coach Cal O'Brien received a very special honour this past weekend.

A well-known former basketball coach at Catholic Central High School (CCH) has been inducted into the Alberta High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Cal O'Brien received the honour this past weekend during a ceremony in Leduc. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame's coaching category. O'Brien started his high school coaching career in 1971 and was involved for his entire 36 year professional career.

The basketball court in the gym at CCH was even named "Cal's Court" in his honour, during a special event last fall. There's also an annual girl's basketball tournament at the school known as the "Cal O'Brien Classic"

From a coaching excellence standpoint, six of O'Brien's high school athletes went on to participate on the Canadian Nation Women's Basketball team.
