Lethbridge's "23 Days of Christmas" Kicks Off

2018 marks the 10th annual Meals on Wheels, "23 Days of Christmas" campaign

There are over 2,000 meals in December that LSCO Meals on Wheels Lethbridge delivers to people in need. Select People Solutions, Teamworks Career Centre, Teamworks Training Institute, Cupper’s Coffee and Tea, Urban Grocer, and Crazy Cakes have partnered to fully sponsor all meals in the month of December.

The 2,000 meals are delivered, on average, over 23 days in December by Meals on Wheels. The goal of this campaign is to sponsor all these meals through the 23 Days of Christmas campaign. Over the past 9 years, this campaign has raised well over $170,000 for Meals on Wheels.
“We want to encourage individuals & businesses to become the “Honourary Chef for the Day” by sponsoring a full day of meals ($1,000),” said Ryan Miller, Teamwork Training Ltd. “It is a great way to make a difference during the Christmas season. Honorary Chefs also have the option to assist with delivering meals on their sponsored day. This has become a popular tradition for many businesses.”

Our partners, Cuppers, Crazy Cakes, and Urban Grocer are also selling Christmas gift cards to further support the campaign. Each $20 card has a gift certificate for $20 in products PLUS ten dollars from the sale of each card goes directly toward the campaign. This makes a great gift for family, friends, neighbors, teachers, and coworkers.

“The 23 Days of Christmas campaign is a gift of community to the people of Lethbridge,” said Miller. “Meals on Wheels provides a valued service that allows many seniors and others to continue living in their homes. We are very proud to be in our 10th year of running this campaign. So far, this year has been our most successful to date with having almost all the days in December sponsored before launching the campaign.

We are extremely grateful to have companies such as Richardson Oilseed and Service Master who have supported this campaign all 10 years.”
The 23 Days of Christmas Campaign has received a national award from the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services for “Outstanding Canadian Community Initiative”, an international award from the American Staffing Association for Community Development, and a Small Business Philanthropist Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Southern Alberta Chapter.

Meals on Wheels has operated in Lethbridge since 1970 and has provided 80 to 100 hot and nutritious meals per day for members of the community who cannot provide for themselves. Now a part of the Lethbridge Senior Citizen Organization (LSCO), Meals on Wheels relies on local volunteers to assist with the delivery of the meals prepared daily in the LSCO’s kitchen.
