Lethbridge-Medicine Hat Jobless Rate Jumps to 6.6% in January

This region experiencing a sizeable jump in unemployment last month.

A significant jump in the local unemployment rate to start off 2018. Stats Canada says the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat jobless rate increased to 6.6% in January, up from 5.9% in December. This region has been experiencing slight increases in unemployment for the last five or six months now. The Camrose-Drumheller region has the lowest jobless rate in the province right now at 4.9%. Alberta's unemployment rate in January held steady at 7.0%, while the overall national rate came in at 5.9%. - Pat Siedlecki
