Wood elements in the facility include the rafters, custom designed doors and 22 massive pillars.
The new trades and technologies building at Lethbridge College has received a prestigious industry award. The facility has been recognized for top institutional wood design at the Alberta Prairie Wood Design Awards. Wood elements within the trades building include rafters, custom designed doors, and 22 massive pillars. Lethbridge College Vice President Corporate Services, Simon Griffiths says wood was selected as a design element because of their focus on sustainability and efforts to target LEED gold certification. He notes the architects found many innovative ways to incorporate wood into the design process and the contractors brought it to life. Griffiths says it was a truly collaborative effort. The wood design has since inspired renovations in other areas at the College. - Pat Siedlecki
