2017 continues to be a fairly strong year for new home construction in the Lethbridge area with starts of both multi-family and single-family homes on the rise.
Lethbridge's new home construction industry is ticking along at a very nice pace. The latest data from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows so far this year, ground has broken on 662 homes in what is classified as the Lethbridge Metropolitan Area (Lethbridge CA/CMA). That's up from 501 during the same ten month period last year. There's been a significant increase in multi-family housing starts here in 2017 which is leading the way locally, however there has been a jump in single-family builds as well. Multi-family starts between January and the end of October came in 254, compared with 142 during the same time period in 2016. Single-family starts sit at 408, up from 359. October saw a huge increase in overall new home construction right across the Lethbridge region with ground breaking on a total of 122 homes, a huge increase from just 21 in October 2016. - Pat Siedlecki
