Harvest is done for the Coaldale-Lethbridge Community Growing Project.
Another successful community growing project for Lethbridge and Coaldale. Ten producers showed up with their combines Friday afternoon to harvest the field just off Highway 3. Spokesman, Larry Penner, says they harvested about 260 metric tonnes of grain which is about about 92 bushels per acre. They also sold 230 bales of straw. Proceeds from the crop itself is about $71,000 with additional community donations still coming in. Penner says the federal government matches crop proceeds four-to-one so he expects about $400,000 will go to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, which helps developing countries around the world.
