Foreign National Arrested at Calgary Airport For Swallowing Heroin, Accused of Drug Smuggling

The quantity of heroin seized on this investigation represents approximately 13,500 individual doses.

A foreign national has been arrested and charged at the Calgary Airport (YYC), accused of trying to smuggle drugs into Canada.

Two weeks ago (Nov. 22), the Canada Border Services Agency intercepted a woman arriving at YYC and determined she had swallowed numerous baggies of heroin in effort to avoid getting caught.

CBSA officers also say they found more of the drug stashed in the woman's suitcase.

A total of 1350 grams of heroin was seized. RCMP have now charged one person with importation and trafficking offences.

Mounties say there was enough heroin for near 14,000 doses.
