FLVT School in West Lethbridge Getting Much-Needed Modulars

Father Leonard Van Tighem school on the west side will have a few more modular classrooms starting this coming fall.

Good news for the local Catholic school division this week.

Alberta Education has approved the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division's request for additional space at Father Leonard Van Tighem (FLVT).

Superintendent Chris Smeaton says they will be moving on the placement of two modulars real quick. "We're pretty excited that our emergency request came in and that we will have two modulars for FLVT in September 2019."

Smeaton adds they will be able to shoehorn the two modulars in beside where the existing ones are located. "To have these modulars is great, however we are in desperate need of a new west side elementary school. Smeaton notes the district is running out of space and these modulars, although much-needed, won't fix the big problem and that's needing a new school to take the pressures off with a growing student population."

Smeaton says he hopes a new school for the west side will be announced before he retires at the end of this year.
