CP Rail Investigating After Train Derailment at Kipp Causes Crude Oil Leak

CP Rail is investigating after a train derailment at the Kipp Rail Yard north of Coalhurst early Saturday morning.

CP Rail is investigating a train derailment at the Kipp Rail Yard north of Coalhurst that caused one car to leak crude oil early Saturday morning. Alberta Emergency Alert issued a Hazardous Materials Alert at 12:45am, asking people to take necessary precautions. About an hour later, the substance was identified as crude oil with officials confirming CPR had stopped the leak.  There is no danger to the public and emergency crews, as well as CP Rail crews, remained on scene for several hours to manage the situation. The Hazardous Materials Alert was cancelled just before 8am Saturday. -Tina Giesbrecht
