Claresholm Town Council Scraps Plan to Convert School into Multi-Use Community Building

Mayor Doug MacPherson says the project isn't viable within the approved budget of $3.5 million.

Claresholm Town Council has decided to scrap its plans for converting an old elementary school into a multi-use community building.

Mayor Doug MacPherson says cost consultants recently assessed the project as over the $3.5-million budget. He says engineers have considered cost saving measures but with the increased budget and code requirements, it's been deemed not viable and the project has been cancelled.

Claresholm Town Council was told last May that if costs were higher than the approved $3.5-million, the project didn't have to proceed.

The converted school was to include a new town hall in addition to serving as a multi-use community building.
