City of Lethbridge Looking at Uplands Groundwater Issue

The City has ordered a second review of the Uplands sump pump issue.

The City has ordered a second review of the Uplands sump pump issue. Two local geotechnical consultants will use existing information on the northside subdivision to try to determine the source of the groundwater that's ending up in sumps. Waste Water Utility Manager Doug Hawkins says typically only one consultant would be used, but the city wants to remain unbiased.  He says hopefully there will be some commonality from the two consultants, but if there's a difference of opinion then that's ok too.  Hawkins is hoping that will help the City find some solutions to this ongoing problem in the long run.  Hawkins says dozens of homes in Uplands could be affected as residents deal with flooded basements and constantly running sump pumps.
