City of Lethbridge Asking Residents to be Proactive to Prevent Flooding During Melt

With the potential for rapid snow melt in the coming days due to warming temperatures, residents are encouraged to take note of several tips to help prevent flooding of basements or water pooling on neighbourhood streets.

The City of Lethbridge reminding residents to take some extra precautions this week with rapidly warming temperatures in the forecast. To avoid any flooding incidents downspouts should be down and extended at least two metres away from your home's foundation, make sure your eaves and downspouts are free from any ice, leaves or other debris, and ensure your sump pump or backwater valve are in good working order. The City says crews are also prepared to respond if ice build up in neighbourhood storm drain catch basins becomes a problem.
