City Man Gets Three Years in Jail for Sex Assault

A Lethbridge man has been sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary for sexually assaulting two young girls.

A Lethbridge man has been sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary for sexually assaulting two young girls and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. 28 year old Joseph Javin Birky pleaded guilty to the charges in Provincial Court Thursday. Last November he had sex with two girls in exchange for money and drugs. One was 15 years old and the other was 11. Following a complaint, police searched  Birky's vehicle and found a loaded shotgun along with  75 ecstasy tablets. He received a global sentence of three years, including two years on the two counts of sexual assault and one year for possession of the ecstasy pills. Birky will also be listed as a registered sex offender for the next 20 years.
