Child Taken to Hospital After Accidental Shooting Near Pincher Creek

The shooting happened late Monday morning at the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony. An 11 year old child has been taken to hospital in Calgary.

An 11 year old child from the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony has been taken to hospital after accidentally getting shot in the chest.

RCMP say it happened late this Monday morning (Apr. 22). It's believed a 13 year child found and was playing with a .22 calibre pistol, when the gun accidentally went off. The bullet struck the other child in the chest.

Mounties say there were no adults around at the time. Pincher Creek RCMP are currently investigating the shooting as well as the safety and storage of the firearm itself.

The child has been stabilized and transported to Calgary Children's Hospital for further treatment.
