Alberta OHS Issues Stop Work Orders After Lethbridge Workplace Death

Occupational Health Safety continues to investigate the death of a 51 year old man who was working last week at the Lethbridge Water Treatment Plant.

A accident at the Lethbridge Water Treatment Plant late last week has claimed the life of a 51 year man.

Trent Bancarz with Alberta Labour tells our radio station it happened Friday (Mar. 1) around noon. Lethbridge Police and emergency crews were called to the location in the river bottom.

Bancarz says the fatal accident happened when a worker was struck by a wheeled telehandler, which is like a boom lift. "Occupational Health and Safety was in control of the site, but has since turned it back over to the prime contractor. OHS has since issued two stop work orders for telehandler operations. Those orders will stay in place until the prime contractor can prove adequate worker safety training."

OHS is continuing to investigate.

The name of the worker killed has not been released.
