Alberta Government Introduces Pre-Pay Fuel Legislation

Labour Minister Christina Gray

The province has introduced legislation that will require drivers to pre-pay before filling up at gas stations.

New legislation introduced in the Alberta legislature Monday proposes province-wide pre-payment of fuel. Motorists would have to pay at the pump or inside with an attendant before filling up, a measure aimed at protecting workers by reducing "gas 'n' dash" incidents. Labour Minister, Christina Gray, says Bill 19 also intends to better protect convenience store workers. One of the proposed violence-prevention plan requirements is to have personal emergency transmitters for all employees working alone. If passed, the changes would take effect June 1st, 2018. -Tina Giesbrecht
