I Stand Against: Sexual Violence 2019
Wednesday, February 13th
The I Stand Against (ISA) campaign began five years ago at the Boys and Girls Club of Lethbridge as an anti-bullying and anti-abuse movement. Initially, it encouraged youth, families, young adults and community members to come together and take a pledge against bullying by writing “I Stand Against” on the back of their hands. ISA’s third year built on top of this movement and turned into a city-wide affair; with school districts, youth based organizations, and community businesses coming together to discuss issues and solutions that go along with discrimination and abuse. This year’s ISA event is bound to be the most exciting and engaging yet taking on the topic of Sexual Violence. According to Statistics Canada, children and youth are victims of sexual assault more often than are their adult counterparts and only 5% of survivors report the experience to the police. Additionally, only 1 in 3 Canadians understand what sexual consent means. ISA will be a chance for youth and community members to connect to local resources, gain more understanding of issues surrounding sexual violence and learn how to put an end to sexual violence in our community. This event is about spreading knowledge and kindness throughout our community and helping to end abuse in Lethbridge & area. I Stand Against: Sexual Violence will be held on Feb 13th, 2019 at the Galt Museum & Archives, and will run from 7pm – 9pm. Students, young adults, community members, organizations, and other businesses will be in attendance. This will be a powerful event filled with local resources, self-café ave, snacks, youth speakers, a keynote speaker and much more.
