Event Summary

The sixth annual Justice Film Festival at Fort Macleod’s Empress
Theatre will bring a number of intriguing and compelling films to town on March 15 and 16, 2019.
In cooperation with Calgary’s Marda Loop Justice Film Festival, the Fort Macleod festival will feature
seven documentaries, followed by discussions led by community members who have an interest in or
academic knowledge of each subject.
“These films are meant to inform and challenge viewers, not necessarily entertain,” explains Denise

Calderwood, who heads up the committee for the Fort Macleod festival. “Some of these films are gut-
wrenching. They illustrate issues of social justice both locally and internationally.”

The documentaries highlight issues that are important to people as individuals, Canadians, global
citizens, and humans.
“The issues featured are huge and we often wonder how one person can possibly make a difference,”
Denise says. “These filmmakers are showing us that individuals can impact change and make a
difference even in extremely difficult circumstances.”
